Thanks for the Heads-up on Nashville Rain Forest Cafe: I didn't know they had one...

I love Panera Bread... and for a chain, they actually have quite a few redeeming qualities.
Things like using all-natural free range chicken, using no preservatives in their bread and donating leftover baked goods to local charities at the end of every day. They are also a really good employer, as i worked there all through high school. The only catch is that their fast and conveinent fresh food does not come cheap! It is, however, worth your money..
Even after working there for several years, i would still choose one of their salads over many other nicer restaurants in town!

I'll throw my vote in for Panera. Not cheap but usually quite good.

BTW, where's Robert S? I figured this thread was made for him.

Bojangles used to be pretty good, too, but something happened to their franchise here, and all their Kentucky operations went belly up. Closest now appears to be in Nashville.

The local chain Indi's provides the equivalent to Bojangles' spicy fried chicken. mmm mmm good

My favorite chains (in no particular order):
  • Arby's -- their Market Fresh sandwiches are really really good.
  • Indi's (local chain) -- I loves me soul food! Their spicy fried chicken and potato wedges are divine.
  • Schlotsky's Deli -- the original ham sandwich is killer.
  • Sweet Tomatoes (not in L'ville) -- their salad bar is incredible, and they make healthy food that tastes great.
  • El Tarasco (local chain?) -- great Mexican food at a good price.
  • Cheesecake Factory -- a fantastic menu of great choices.

Indi's, King's and Chicken King, among others, all offer similar quick fried chicken and other soul food items, mostly in the inner city but with outposts in South Louisville and around Newburg. If I recall correctly, most or all of them are actually owned by families from India.

Yeap. I was thrilled when Indi's opened up a location in South Louisville.

My Favs (in no particular order)

by John Lisherness » Fri Jun 15, 2007 6:48 pm

I travel for work, so I've got some opinions:
McCormick & Schmicks- awesome seafood
PF Changs - Lettuce Wraps and spicy Kung Pao
Macaroni Grill - reliable quality ("just say no" to BuccaD'B' and OliveG' )
Bruegger's Bagels - sorry, but Panera's bagels have an aftertaste.
Qdoba - midday bellywad

I'm just waiting for someone to get smart and do with Indian cuisine what PF Changs did with Sichuan cuisine.

Where do you find Bruegger's Bagels? We used to have one here, and I always thought theirs were the best bagels available locally - I wish they'd consider coming back.
