Destinare 1995 South Africa Grand Rouge "Fine Red Table Wine" ($8.99)
With an aboriginal-art label and a generic Italianate name, this one's apparently made for the world export market. It's a dark ruby color, with red-fruit aromas over a medicinal note reminiscent of witch hazel. Soft, juicy fruit flavor follows the nose, a bit prickly on the tongue. Clean but short in the finish. Drinkable, might be a bargain at $5, but not at $9. Importer: Destination International Inc., Charlotte, N.C. (July 14, 1997)
