Corino 1992 Vigna Giachini Dolcetto d'Alba ($11.99)
I was a little concerned about the condition of a five-year-old Dolcetto, but since I love Dolcetto and this one was a single-vineyard model (perhaps akin to a grand cru Beaujolais?), I figured it was worth the risk. Good decision! Dark garnet in color, this wine breathes black-cherry and floral aromas with notes of spicy oak. Ripe, plummy black-fruit flavors are laced up with lemony acidity and, surprisingly, a soft but perceptible jolt of tannin. Drinking well and may still have a couple of years in it.
