Cline 1996 Cotes d'Oakley California Vin Gris Rosé Table Wine ($5.99) It doesn't get much cheaper than this, and remarkably -- at least in the rosé department -- it doesn't get much better than this. Fashioned from Mourvèdre, Carignane and Cinsaut, cool-fermented and given a touch of French oak, this pink wine definitely stands comparison against the dry, complex rosés of Southern France, not the insipid "blush" pinks that compete at its price point. It's a clear cherry-red color, rather dark for a ros´, with a good, fresh mixed-berry scent. Bone-dry and tartly acidic on the palate, it offers berrylike and herbal flavor notes; clean and crisp in a long finish. Very good wine, outstanding value. (June 4, 1997)
